Scars tell stories – of courage, change, and self-acceptance. With the exhibition Let Your Scars Shine, Bergstraße District Hospital invites the breast cancer community “buusenkollektiv” to set a strong signal against taboos and for the visibility of women after breast cancer.
It is not only about surviving cancer – but also about feeling beautiful, whole, and confident again in one’s own body. Scars are still too often seen as a flaw if they do not conform to conventional ideals of beauty. This exhibition seeks to change that.
Inspired by Japanese Kintsugi art, in which broken pieces are highlighted and refined with gold, Let Your Scars Shine celebrates scars as an expression of strength, uniqueness, and lived life. Through artistic works by photographer Chap Chaplin, personal stories, and public discussions, the exhibition creates space for new perspectives and challenges beauty norms, making diversity visible.
Join us on September 24 at 10:00 a.m. for the festive opening of the exhibition – a courageous start to an important social dialogue. Admission is free. Donations are welcome
