Pinktober
Let’s wear pink in October, share knowledge, and save lives together.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. About one in eight women will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime. Men can also develop breast cancer. About 1% of all new breast cancer cases occur in men. When detected early, the chances of recovery are good—which makes education, screening, and solidarity all the more important.
In October—International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, known as “Pinktober”—the Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg, and the Bergstraße Breast Center (BZB) at the Bergstraße District Hospital are taking visible action against breast cancer. The goal is to raise awareness, provide information about early detection, and offer concrete support to affected patients.
Heidelberg Castle and Starkenburg Castle in Heppenheim will be illuminated in bright pink throughout October as a sign of solidarity with breast cancer patients.
The campaign is accompanied by a variety of activities: informational events, an exhibition, a bra installation in Heppenheim’s pedestrian zone, an awareness campaign in schools, and a circular hike.
The MLP Academics Heidelberg are also participating in two home game days in October, using sports to raise awareness and demonstrate social commitment.

Captured from the air by impressive drone footage, the event became a special moment of community and visibility.
The photos and videos of this action vividly demonstrate how many people got involved – and how they inspired courage to stand together for greater awareness, prevention, and support.
